These figures began with a basket of clay faces that I made when I was a potter, for no intended propose. They sat in that basket for several years until I re-discovered them and decided to make bodies for them...

I began with bodies that I made from fabric with the clay faces attached. Some of the faces are painted and some are stained with permanent black ink. The later ones are made on doll bodies that I added to and subtracted from.

I use old materials and found objects, especially things that are broken, torn or that have otherwise been deemed unusable. I honor their history and give them new purpose.

These figures are made intuitively. They represent nothing predetermined by me but are offered to the viewer for interpretation.
